The Best Digital Cameras Take Magnificent Pictures

Camera Advice;; Sony, Canon, WHAT DO I DO?!?
Ok, so for Christmas this year, I figure that I should splurge a bit on myself, seeing as I do this rarely. I want a very good quality digital camera, for a tighter budget, unfortunately. & I’m not looking for anything magnificent, like a Canon Rebel or something, just something that can take sharper, less blurred, good-quality pictures.
So I was in Best Buy, & I saw a Sony that took pretty snazzy photos. But of course, every one says Canons are better (&more$$$!). I guess I want something compact w/o a whole big, clunky lens;; but I’m willing to bend if the quality is great & it’s within my price range of $300.
Thanks!
